Below is some news on the pathway to representative rowing in Wellington, a replacement for the winter RPC initiatives.
National Pathway Coach
Mark Stallard has been appointed as the new National Pathway Coach and will be covering the Wellington Region. Mark would like to meet with any coaches who are around and available over this weekend. So if you or any of your athletes have aspirations for the pathway to rowing for NZ, then please contact Mark at email@example.com
WRA Winter Athlete programmes 2021
In conjunction with the National Pathway coach, the WRA and Rowing NZ will be offering 2 Winter programs in the Wellington region,
1) The Performance Athlete Progamme (provisional details below)
2) The Row4Gold
If all coaches could consider if they (or their athletes) would like to be part of one of these programs.
Performance Athlete Programme - incorporating aspiring athletes from the School leaver, University, and Adult groups. This is a Rowing NZ-supported winter initiative for athletes who would like to represent NZ in rowing. The entry points are:
School Leaver entry - This is specifically targeted at Yr 13 students who have their last season of school rowing in 2020/21. Up to 8 male and 8 female places will be available.
University entry - Targeting inbound and current university rowers, who can train alongside the other groups. Up to 4 male and 4 female places will be available.
Aspiring Adult entry - Aspiring Club athletes, from 17 – 25 years in age. Up to 4 male and 4 female places will be available.
The programme will run from May - October with weekly performance sessions, (which will sit alongside winter training at the athlete's club), as well as two away camps and a provincial competition. All athletes on the programme will be eligible for selection to the National Development camp (former RPC trial) in August, as selected by the National pathway coach.

Row 4Gold - The Wellington Rowing Association in partnership with the Wellington City Council and Sport Wellington are offering the Row4Gold again in 2021 from May-October (starting date to be determined) for Year 11 + 12 rowers and coxswains. This year is slightly different in that we are running it for emerging instead of developing athletes. The extended programme name is Row4Gold - Emerging Rowing Group (ERG).
Training sessions will look to take place every fortnight, usually for 4 hours on a weekend day. The strength and conditioning sessions will be run by High-Performance NZ.
